How to Get More 5-Star Google Reviews Without Breaking the Rules

Most businesses have far more happy customers than reviews. The reason is simple: unhappy people go looking for a place to complain, and happy people go home. If you want your rating to reflect the real experience, you have to ask.

Ask at the right moment

The best time to ask is right after a good moment: the job is finished, the client sees their photos, the customer thanks you. A text sent that same day gets far more reviews than an email a week later.

Make it one tap

In your Google Business Profile, use "Ask for reviews" to get your direct review link. Put it in:

  • A short text or email after each visit
  • Your email signature
  • A QR code at the front desk or on receipts
  • Your website's contact and thank-you pages

A simple text that works

Hi [name], thanks for coming in today! If you have a minute, a quick Google review would mean a lot to our small team: [link]

The rules you can't break

Google and the FTC are cracking down on review tricks. These can get reviews removed, your profile restricted, or bring fines:

  • No incentives. Don't offer discounts, gifts or entries for reviews.
  • No review gating. Don't ask only the happy customers, or send unhappy ones somewhere else first. Ask everyone the same way.
  • No fake or bought reviews. That includes reviews from employees, family or paid services.
  • Don't ask for reviews on Yelp. Yelp's rules discourage asking for reviews at all, and it may hide solicited ones.

Reply to every new review

Thank each reviewer by name and mention something specific they said. It shows future customers you're listening, and it keeps your profile active.

The hard part isn't knowing what to do. It's doing it every day.

Make it automatic

We set up the review links, request texts and QR codes, then reply to every new review for you and report your progress monthly.
