    Understanding your grade

    What each score means

Each score runs from 0 to 100 and is calculated by Google Lighthouse. Here’s what it is measuring and why a local business should care.

    Performance

How fast the page loads and responds

A weighted blend of lab speed metrics, mainly Largest Contentful Paint, Total Blocking Time and Cumulative Layout Shift, measured on a simulated mid-range phone. Slow pages lose visitors before they ever see your phone number, especially on mobile data.

    SEO

    Basic technical search readiness

Checks that search engines can crawl and understand the page: a title and meta description, readable link text, image alt text, a valid robots.txt and no accidental “noindex”. It’s a baseline, not a ranking prediction; content, reviews and your Google Business Profile still do the heavy lifting.

    Accessibility

Usable by everyone, on every device

Looks for color contrast, labeled form fields and buttons, image descriptions and a logical heading order. These help visitors with low vision or screen readers, and they usually make the site easier for everyone else to use too.

    Best Practices

    Security and code health

Confirms the site uses HTTPS, avoids outdated or vulnerable code, doesn’t throw browser errors and displays images at the right size. Problems here often signal an older site that’s overdue for maintenance.

Core Web Vitals, in one line each

    LCP · Largest Contentful Paint

Time until the biggest thing on screen (usually a hero image or headline) appears. Good: 2.5 s or less.

    CLS · Cumulative Layout Shift

How much the page jumps around while loading. Good: 0.1 or less.

INP · Interaction to Next Paint

How fast the page reacts to taps and clicks, from real Chrome users. Good: 200 ms or less.

    TBT · Total Blocking Time

Lab stand-in for responsiveness: how long scripts freeze the page. Good: 200 ms or less.

    FAQ

    Website grader questions

Is the website grader really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no cost. The test runs on Google’s public PageSpeed Insights service, and you only share your contact details if you want the follow-up report and review call.

Where do these scores come from?

Straight from Google PageSpeed Insights, which runs Lighthouse, Google’s open-source auditing tool. We do not adjust the numbers; we translate the failed checks into plain English and put the most useful fixes first.

Why is my mobile score lower than my desktop score?

The mobile test simulates a mid-range phone on a slower cellular connection, so heavy images, big scripts and slow servers hurt much more. Google mainly uses the mobile version of your site for ranking, so the mobile score is the one to watch.

Why does my score change each time I run it?

Performance is measured on a live connection, so server load, ads, third-party scripts and network conditions all cause some variation. A swing of a few points is normal; look at the trend and at the specific issues rather than one exact number.

Does a higher score guarantee better Google rankings?

No. Speed, Core Web Vitals and technical SEO are part of how Google evaluates pages, but content, relevance, reviews, your Google Business Profile and links matter a lot too. A good score removes obstacles; it does not guarantee positions.

What does INP mean and why does it say there is not enough data?

Interaction to Next Paint measures how quickly your page responds when a real visitor taps or clicks. It comes from the Chrome User Experience Report, which only has data for sites with enough Chrome traffic. Until then, Total Blocking Time is the best lab stand-in.

Can you fix these issues for me?

Yes. Request the free report below and we’ll walk you through the fixes in a 15-minute call. You can keep the advice and do it yourself, hand it to your current developer, or have us handle it.
